Shapeshifting is the power to physically change into another being. Most often, stories of such transformations involve humans into animals, and visa versa, which is known as Therianthropy. Shapeshifting can include metamorphosis into plants, too, and even inanimate objects.
The lack of rigid boundaries between humans and animals in Celtic religion and mythology is demonstrated above all by shape-shifting or metamorphosis, the power of supernatural beings to change form. The world of vernacular Irish and Welsh tradition is redolent with enchanted animals who were once in in human form, and divinities who could transform themselves back and forth between human and animal shape.Significantly, these transformations often took place on the Feast of Samhain, or other sacred Celtic days, when the barrier between the mundane and the supernatural was temorarily broken down...
