The word Faery, however spelled, unfortunately today conjures an image that is very different from that known in the old system of belief and worship. Today, it mostly represents small winged happy sprites with wand in hand, often cheerfully dressed in modern human garb, sitting on pretty flowers, looking blissful and benevolent.
And clearly not real.
The Sidhe of old were perceived in completely different light :
as powerful, dangerous, elusive and undoubtedly real.
No less beautiful, but much more pernicious in their captivating and alluring presence.
The public`s perception of Faeries has changed considerably through time, but they have not.
There are still ways, for those who are open - minded and willing, to gain a glimpse of the nature of the powers that led persistent seekers to eternal well of knowledge and inspiration, or others, to eternal sleep...
